The EPISODES Platform gathers data related to environmental hazards triggered by human activity and software allowing for processing and visualization of these data. The data are offered in form of grouped datasets (Episodes) that relate anthropogenic seismicity to its industrial cause. The software is provided as a set of Applications prepared to operate on these data. The applications are run within the user Workspace, which also provides means for storing, comparison and organization of the initial and processed data. The contents of the Workspace might be shared with other users, thus facilitating the collaborative aspect of their research.

Affiliations
Affiliations
Affiliations

While most of the data and applications offered by the EPISODES Platform are open, there are also some datasets that were embargoed by their data providers or are limited to non-commercial use only. Therefore, if you want to access them, you have to provide a relevant affiliation. There are two types of affiliations: researcher status or a project membership (both marked with (3) in Figure 4).

Applying for the researcher status (Figure 5), will grant you access to the resources restricted to non-commercial use after you are verified. The verification is based on the provided e-mail address coming from your research institution (it doesn't have to be the same e-mail address you used for the registration) and the institution's webpage (if you are listed there, it may speed up the process) may last up to one working day. After you are positively verified, you will obtain an e-mail confirmation. If your request is rejected, you will also get the reason for rejection in the incoming message.

To apply for the project membership affiliation (Figure 6), you have to be a member of one of the projects that is a source of an embargo on data or application. Choose your project, and Work Package in it (if required) from the list and send the request. Similarly as in case of the researcher status, your membership in the chosen project will be verified by our staff and you will be notified by e-mail of the result of verification.

AH-TCS is a prototype of Anthropogenic Hazard (AH) Thematic Core Service (TCS), in European Plate Observing System (EPOS) integration program. AH-TCS integrates data describing comprehensively anthropogenic hazard cases, called Episodes of Induced Seismicity (ESI) and software services grouped in certain categories. Moreover, it provides interactive visualization, browsing and optimization tools. In such way, the AH-TCS sustains a permanent and reliable platform of advanced Research Infrastructures for the Anthropogenic Hazard Community.

This quick start Guide provides basic information about how to access, register and make use of the database and the services available in AH-TCS web-platform. For more detailed description of the portal navigation, configuration options, scientific implementations and visualization services the user is referred to the AH-TCS User Guide. User Guide which comprises several chapters associated with specific functions, provides detailed description, supported with snapshots and figures demonstrating step-by-step examples of certain applications. This quick guide includes the most important information on the following issues:

  • Logging in
  • AH-TCS Home Page
  • Tabs and Icons
  • AH Episodes

LOGGING IN

The AH-TCS web platform is available at https://tcs.ah-epos.eu/ (Figure 1). The language that TCS operates is English. In the home page there is brief information about TCS and relative links connected with IS-EPOS and EPOS WG10. If a user has already an account he/she can easily sign in but simply providing the e-mail address and password. To create an account, the user shall click on either the ‘SIGN UP’ or the 'SIGN UP TO GET ACCESS' tab available (shown in the red frames, Figure 1). Two classes of users will be available in the TCS: Active users and passive users. Currently, only passive user registration is enabled: The fields that the user is requested to fill are shown in Figure 2. After submitting the registration form the system generates a password which is sent by e-mail to the user and can be thereinafter used for signing in the web-platform.

AH-TCS Home Page

The home page of AH-TCS platform is shown in Figure 3. The user may switch between the TCS portal and the Documents repository (Field 1, Figure 3). Portal grants access to three major facility categories: The AH Episodes and the Services (Field 2, Figure 3) and the user's workspace (Field 3 Figure 3). In the workspace the user may upload and use the available data and services at any combination. In the example of Figure 3 the AH-Episodes is selected and the user may select an Episode from the list or filter the list by impacting factor (Field 4, Figure 3). In such way the user obtains access to the selected Episode Data base. Alternatively, advanced data search can be performed (Field 5, Figure 3).

TABS AND ICONS:

Most of the command tabs are self-explanatory (such as 'search', 'plot', 'show', 'Add to workspace', etc). The 'Actions' tab provide a list of actions. In case of the AH Episodes data, the only available action is 'Add to workspace'. In case of the elements in workspace (data, results) the 'Actions' tab provides a variety of actions depending upon the format and potential usage of an element. Such actions are also self-explanmatory as: 'copy', 'delete', 'use in service', 'make a directory', etc. In the case of seismic catalogs there is also a tab 'action list' which provide visualizations of catalog elements such as tables with catalog contents, seismic activity step plot, 3D events distribution etc. There are also some actions which are defined by the following symbols
