Basic information

PLGrid is a nationwide IT infrastructure dedicated to scientists. We provide services and resources from federated polish Polish top 5 supercomputer centers. PLGrid offer includes: 3,5 PetaFlops of computing resources and more than 20 PetaBytes of storage.

To get access to PLGrid resources you have to be affiliated by Polish Scientific Institution or cooperate with a polish scientist.

Only a few simple steps are needed to create an account, which allows you later to get access to all PLGrid services (via web platform - Portal PLGrid).

Go to https://portal.plgrid.pl/ to create your account. Fill in the registration form with all required information. Your login must start with "plg".

the trial grant

Resource Grant is an agreement between the User and the PLGrid Infrastructure. This agreement also contains the specification of resources that you have applied for. Upon registration you will receive a trial period to determine your requirements. The trial period grant. It consists of 1000 normalized CPU hours and 10 GB of storage for one year per computing center. If you require more resources you can apply for aProper Resource Grant.

PLGrid Infrastructure provides a variety of tools and services for your computations and storage needs. You have access to repository of services via Services Catalogue (in Polish: Katalog Aplikacji i Usług).

A workgroup allows user or group of users to negotiate resources with the PLGrid's supercomputer centers. Users can share resources within a one workgroup workgroup.

2. Get a certificate

Certificate confirms user's identity within PLGrid Infrastructure. It allows you to use some of PLGrid services without requiring your login and password. Also some applications or tools require the certificate to access them.

a Proper Grant

For user who needs more resources than provided by trial grant PLGrid Infrastructure dedicates a Proper Resource Grant". User must set up a workgroup, it is a mandatory requirement. Only workgroup represented by its manager is allow to negotiate thepool resources.  The manager is also responsible for reporting results and publications reached while working with the grant. The work group workgroup does not have to be a group of users. There can be only one person.

What's next?

Decide how to use PLGrid's offer. You can schedule the tasks or store your data and files. Infrastructure offers a variety of tools for Linux users and Windows users as well. There is also a possibility to get acces to domain specific services for wide range of science fields.

Our users have documentation and manuals at their disposal. In case of difficulties we recommend writing a ticket on Helpdesk platform.

For less experienced users we would like to recommend using middlewares (QCG or UNICORE) for the computations. If you are more advanced, you can access resources via SSH protocol.
